Canadian pianist Matthew Tam started studying piano at the age of five in Markham, Ontario. He joined numerous local and international piano competitions and won top prizes at many, including the Toronto Music Festival, Kiwanis Music Festival, ORMTA, Richmond Hill Music Festival, Markham Music Festival, and the LMSF competition in London, Ontario. In 2007, he earned the RCM silver medal for the highest scoring RCM grade 10 examination in the province. After completing his ARCT, Matthew finished a Bachelor of Music with Heather Taves followed by a Master's in piano performance under the direction of John-Paul Bracey. He now operates a private studio in Markham and is actively collaborating with musicians and ensembles in the area.
As a collaborative pianist, he has been involved in various opera productions and currently serves as the accompanist and assistant répétiteur for the Phoenix Chorale and head accompanist for the Whispering River Orchestra and Choir. Matthew has participated in numerous masterclasses including some by such renowned pianists as Angela Hewitt, André Laplante, Christopher O' Riley, and Marc Toth.
He has performed in numerous venues in Markham, Newmarket, and the surrounding area, including the Steinway Gallery Toronto and the Glenn Gould Studio. His former mentors include Heather Taves, Michael Esch, and Alan Hobbins.

Lessons are offered for students of all ages and skill levels. Beginners usually start with a rudimentary method book and can proceed in various directions after the first year or two. This may involve jazz, pop, classical, RCM stream, improvisation, composition, anime, YouTube transcriptions, concerti, compositions, festivals and the list goes on! Lessons are tailored to your individual needs, whether it be for leisure, interest, or There are monthly opportunities for students to perform as well as student concerts in a professional setting twice a year. In addition, workshops and scholarships are provided for distinguished students through the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association.
Private RCM theory lessons are available for all courses in the updated latest theory syllabus. Lessons typically run 10-14 weeks depending on the course and include a comprehensive study of past papers, mock exams, and supplementary materials.
